Sailing Adventures:
Day Sails

Ages: 10 to adult

Duration
  • 3 hours unless otherwise noted

When:
  • June-September, 2011

Where:
  • The sailboat departs from Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey, 1.5 miles from the Aquarium.

Become a marine scientist for a day! You'll experience the wonders of Monterey Bay first-hand as you work alongside Aquarium naturalists aboard the Derek M Baylis, a 65-foot sailboat designed for ocean research.

We’re keeping a trip log--are you?
You'll get your hands wet gathering plankton, testing water samples and observing the fascinating bottom-dwelling creatures found in our sampling equipment. Along the way you may get to see whales, dolphins and sea otters, all common visitors to the bay. You'll learn about the history of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and how this resource-rich environment has been utilized and studied over the years.

Everyone can take a turn at the helm steering the boat and you'll learn about navigation and sailing. Small group sizes allow everyone to actively participate in the science activities.

Don't miss this rare view of the bay and the amazing creatures that live there.
