Exhibit Animals: Wading Birds
Come face-to-face with five-foot-tall Chilean flamingos, inquisitive roseate spoonbills and other colorful wading birds. Graceful and long-legged, they find their food in wetlands and mangrove swamps—areas that provide rich habitat and help buffer the shore from storms.
Scientists tell us that by 2100, sea levels will rise several feet as a result of climate change, flooding wetlands as well as coastal cities like San Francisco, Sydney and Shanghai. Long-legged wading birds and other animals—as well as people—will have to move to higher ground, if they can.
> What's making sea levels rise?
We can make our own clean energy to help reduce carbon pollution and its effects on the ocean. It's already happening around the world, from wind and water power to using the Earth's hidden heat.
